Dare to Dream 2008, is an expedition to Annapurna - the world's 10th highest mountain and a Himalayan peak rich
in historical and scientific significance. Considered the world's most complex high altitude mountain, standing
on the top of Annapurna is arguably the greatest achievement in extreme altitude climbing. Led by Everest
Summiteers, Tonya Riggs and Brad Clement, the expedition will take place during the fall of 2008.
Reaching the summit of Annapurna is an extraordinary undertaking for any man - or woman, and we will be
celebrating the 30th anniversary of the first all-women's climb of Annapurna - as well as demonstrating how
far women and men have come in working together to achieve goals and overcome adversity.
By confronting obstacles on Annapurna that are far greater than ourselves, we hope to inspire men and women of
all ages, cultures and backgrounds to live their dreams. This project will take Annapurna beyond a physical
summit to a deeper story of inspiration, education, and understanding.
"Despite being the first 8,000 meter peak to be climbed Annapurna has since received the least number of
attempts and ascents of all the 8,000 meter mountains." |
Dare to Dream 2008 has partnered with the National Center for Atmospheric Research
(NCAR) - committed to
developing and enhancing public interest in and understanding of science; and the
HERA Foundation - dedicated
to ovarian cancer awareness; to link together adventure on one of the world's highest mountains with powerful
inspiration and lasting science and health education and awareness.
We will use the power and allure of the highest mountains in the world as a vehicle to help create awareness
for one of the deadliest cancers known today, while at the same time helping spread education about the climatic
changes that are strongly affecting and altering the Earth's mountainous regions…and the entire world in which
we live. Achieving goals, breaking boundaries, health empowerment and a healthy environment….everything is
connected...
The expedition will be filmed in High Definition video and regular satellite updates will be provided by the
team while on the mountain.
